Balancing modern monetization strategies with the readability of dense Hindi script.

The Challenge

Sarita is a household name in Indian Hindi literature, known for its diverse coverage of politics, society, and entertainment. The challenge was multifaceted: we needed to migrate a massive library of legacy content into a modern CMS while ensuring the frontend design could handle a high density of information.

Critically, the design had to integrate aggressive advertising zones—essential for the magazine’s digital revenue model—without cluttering the interface or detracting from the reading experience. The typography also required careful selection to ensure legibility for complex Hindi conjuncts across devices.

We approached the redesign with a “Content-First” philosophy, prioritizing structure before styling.

The Design Process

We began with wireframing in Adobe XD to solve the puzzle of “density.” We needed a grid that could breathe. By using a strict modular grid system, we created designated spaces for ‘Breaking News’ versus ‘Literary Features.’

The visual identity leaned heavily on the brand’s iconic Red, adapted for digital screens, paired with our primary Deep Blue (#3739a4) for actionable elements. We chose specific font weights of ‘Poppins’ for headlines to ensure they stood out against the dense Hindi body text, which we rendered in ‘Inter’ (or a compatible Hindi web font fallback) for maximum legibility on mobile devices.
